Weaving is an art that enhances the look of a dull piece into a designer piece.
India has been considered as precursor in the art of weaving textiles. A six-yard sari can be designed by lot of efforts and painstaking steps. One such meticulous process of making a sari is “weaving”.
Weave, is a method where the threads are interlaced with each other. The interstices or crossing of the threads determines the characteristic of the weave.
Weaving, an approach or way of producing a fabric by interlacing two distinct sets of yarns, which are interlaced at right angles to form a fabric, is basically a family of techniques used for several purposes in knitting. Weaving techniques are also used for decorating the clothes and household materials. Today, Indian saris are attracting the international women by their traditional weavings.
There are different methods in making fabrics or cloths other than weaving such as knitting, lace making, felting and braiding or plaiting etc. But weaving is considered as an international method in making the fabrics.
Warp and weft are the two basic steps of weaving, where the longitudinal threads are called as warps and lateral are called as wefts or fillings. The method in which these threads are interwoven affects the characteristics of cloth. Weaving basically involves in two types:

2. Power loom
If the weaving is done by using hands, then it will be called as handloom, otherwise it is known as power loom if it is done by using machines.
There are different types of weaves:
Plain weave is the most common and inexpensive type produce. It is simple, durable and flat in nature, where it has two types of variations in it named Rib weave and Matt weave. Crepe, chiffon, georgette, shantung, taffeta, organdie and muslin are the different fabrics come under this category.
Basket weave is also an inexpensive type like plain weave but with chequered patterns. It has regular and irregular weaves which are used in making wall hangings and pillows.
Satin weaves are smooth, soft lustrous with excellent draping qualities. Satin and satin weave fabrics such as cotton are the basic fabrics and are used in making draperies and quits etc.
Twill weaves are diagonal and fancy designs, which are used in making household uses like comforters and upholstery etc with denim as basic fabric.
Jacquard is the combination of plain, satin and twill with brocade, cotton, Lenin and Damask as base clothes, used to make wall hangings.
Leno weaves were used thousands of years ago in making fabrics. Now they are under usage of designing blankets and curtains.
Pile weaves are used to form loops like cut and un-cut pile fabrics. These are soft, absorbent and relatively inexpensive fabrics used to make carpets, rugs and towels.
